SHOOTO - 12/12/2006: 'A Rookie Tournament Winner Wicky Taking On Tamura'

Wicky Akio, who just won Shooto's lightweight rookie tournament and is now ranked in the ninth spot in the Pacific Rim ranking, is fighting fifth ranked Akitoshi Tamura. Wicky is following the success of older members of his club, Lion Takeshi and Tenkei Fujimiya, by winning the rookie tournament, and is now facing a Shooto world ranked fighter. During the intermission in the Shooto show last week, both Wicky and Tamura stepped up to the ring, for the fans, sharing their thoughts for the upcoming fight.
Tamura talked first, "When I heard Wicky came up to (Shooto's) A class , I had this feeling that I might have to fight him" then with a grin on his face, "Well, I am going to put up a good fight and win." Wicky just replyed with a simple statement, "I am going to beat him up."
2005 ADCC Japan trial winner Tetsu Suzuki, after competing at the world championships, went back to Japan, changed his ring name to Tetsu Hadairo (a kin color man), and with a series of innovative, at times quite strange entrances and costume, now established his place in Shooto as a cult hero. In this upcoming show, he is going to take on a 12-year Shooto veteran Jin Akimoto, the founder of Akimoto Dojo JUNGLE JUNCTION and now currently also utilizing his leadership in local politics. After the mediocre year of 1-1-1 in 2005, Suzuki just came back in July to score a win so this fight against a seasoned grappler may well his place in Shooto. Is he just a show? Or a legitimate title contender? (11/12/2006)

Both Wicky Akio (left) and Akitoshi Tamura looked relaxed, confident, and ready to go.
